LEGO is expanding its collection of cinematic tributes with a new E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial figure. The upcoming set, officially designated E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (21370), is set to launch on August 1 with a retail price of $139.99 / £119.99 and is available for pre-order now on Lego.com.
This new LEGO creation comprises 1,226 pieces and stands approximately 24cm tall, with a width of 21cm and a depth of 15cm. This scale positions the model as roughly a quarter of the size of the character as depicted in the 1982 film, which placed the real E.T. at about 1 meter tall.
The figure boasts movable appendages, allowing builders to recreate iconic poses, including E.T.'s famous "phone home" gesture. A notable feature is a light-up brick integrated into the chest, capable of illuminating E.T.'s heart in red. However, the set does not include a feature to light up E.T.'s finger.
This E.T. set emerges from the LEGO Ideas range, a platform where fan-submitted designs are put to a community vote before potential production. E.T. has appeared in LEGO form before, notably as a minifigure in the LEGO Dimensions game.
The original film, directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Henry Thomas and Drew Barrymore, has left a lasting cultural impact. While a direct sequel never materialized, director Steven Spielberg and actor Henry Thomas did reunite with the character for a Christmas-themed short film titled A Holiday Reunion in 2019, which served as a long commercial for Xfinity.
