Neowiz, the publisher behind the soulslike hit Lies of P, has filed a European trademark for "Wonders of O." This filing, noted by Eurogamer, strongly suggests a new game is in development, with many speculating it could be a direct sequel to Lies of P.
The trademark lists "virtual reality game software" among other categories, but the name "Wonders of O" and its categorization align with the popular theory that the game will be an adaptation of L. Frank Baum's "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz," following in the footsteps of Lies of P's dark reimagining of "The Adventures of Pinocchio."
This connection is further supported by Lies of P's post-credits scene, which featured a character clicking ruby slippers, a clear nod to the iconic imagery from "The Wizard of Oz." Both original stories, Pinocchio and The Wizard of Oz, were published in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, respectively, and are often considered more complex and darker than their widely known adaptations.
Development on the sequel appears to be gaining momentum. Earlier this year, Lies of P developer Nough (formerly Round 8 Studio) released a documentary discussing its name change and hinting at the upcoming project. The studio's director has expressed confidence in delivering a compelling follow-up, especially following the positive reception of Lies of P's "Overture" expansion, which garnered critical acclaim.
