Logitech's new Replay software, currently in beta, aims to automatically identify and compile highlight clips from gameplay using deep learning. While the concept is promising, early testing in Counter-Strike 2 reveals that the software has significant room for improvement in its clip selection.
During initial testing, the software's generated clips included instances of being spawn-killed, a mediocre kill during a warmup round, spectating after death, and numerous missed shots. While the software did include some kills, they were not deemed particularly impressive. In one instance, the software only produced a single, unremarkable clip from an entire deathmatch game, despite the player achieving more notable kills like Deagle shots, Scout quickscopes, and a flick no-scope during the same match.
However, the software does offer manual editing capabilities, allowing users to select clips from the full recording. After spending about five minutes manually editing, the player was able to create a more satisfactory highlight reel from the same game footage. Beyond its AI-driven clip generation, the software functions as a capable manual recorder and editor. It begins recording upon game launch and provides an easy interface for adding and removing clips for the final compilation.
Users can set a limit for storage usage, which will automatically delete older recordings when the limit is reached. Importantly, no performance impact was observed during testing, though this was on a high-end system. Logitech lists 44 compatible games on its website, and the software is available as a free download.
Further testing is planned to assess the software's performance in other games and to see if other users experience better results with its automatic clip generation. The developer encourages users to share their experiences with the beta software.
