Love and Deepspace Developer Blunder Prompts Safety Warning After Recommending Toxic Cocktail Ingredients

The dating gacha game Love and Deepspace has found itself in hot water after its developers posted themed cocktail recipes on X that included toxic and psychoactive ingredients. The game's official account shared a series of drinks inspired by its romanceable characters, each associated with a signature flower.

While some characters' flowers, such as crabapple blossom, forget-me-not, and jasmine, are harmless, the recipes for Rafayel and Sylus incorporated the fire lily and datura. Both of these plants are known to be toxic, with datura also possessing psychoactive properties. This choice prompted significant concern and confusion among players.

Following the community's reaction, which included the original post being community-noted and flooded with questions, the developer took approximately 36 hours to issue a clarifying statement. The follow-up tweet stated, "Safety notice: All drinks shown are fictional and for in-game purposes only. Do not attempt to recreate or consume them in reality."

This situation is unusual, as game developers typically create thematic food and drink recipes intended for real-world recreation. The decision to include potentially dangerous ingredients in recipes that players might be encouraged to attempt has raised questions about the developer's judgment and the reasoning behind the inclusion of such elements when safer, non-toxic alternatives exist.
