The classic RPG series Lufia is making its way to PC, with the first two games, Lufia & the Fortress of Doom and Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals, slated for release on Steam in 2027. This marks the first time these titles will be officially available on the platform.
The original Lufia & the Fortress of Doom launched in 1993 and immediately introduced players to the conflict against four powerful beings known as the Sinistrals. The narrative continues with players taking on the role of descendants of the original heroes, facing the resurgence of the same ancient evil. Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals serves as a prequel, delving into the stories of the heroes glimpsed in the first game's opening.
This PC release is a notable event, given the scarcity and expense of acquiring the original games. Lufia & the Fortress of Doom was exclusively released on the SNES, with physical copies commanding high prices. Lufia II also appeared on the SNES and later received a Nintendo DS iteration that reimagined it as an action RPG.
According to Taito producer Yuichi Toyama, discussions regarding the revival of the Lufia series began four to five years ago, spurred by fan demand. The development team's objective, as stated by Clear River Games producer James Wragg, is to ensure the remake faithfully replicates the original games, aiming for emulation as close to the source material as possible.
