Hangar 13 is set to expand the open world of Mafia: The Old Country with its forthcoming Man of Honor expansion, aiming to add greater depth to the game's Free Ride mode. This update seeks to bring the exploration aspect more in line with the expansive environments found in contemporary titles such as Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2.

While Mafia: The Old Country's Sicilian setting served as a compelling backdrop for its narrative-driven single-player campaign, the initial implementation of its open world exploration mode was criticized for a lack of engaging activities. Following an overhaul of the Free Ride mode in November, Hangar 13 is further enriching this component with the Man of Honor expansion.

Design director Josh Zammit detailed in a gameplay overview trailer that Salieri, a returning character central to the expansion's new story chapters, will also be the impetus for much of the new open world content. Players will have the opportunity to accept jobs directly from Salieri, which will unlock side quests designed to showcase more of Sicily. These jobs will provide access to new activities within the Free Ride mode, including standoff challenges, assassination missions, circuit races, time trials, and road sprints.

Even for players who prefer to bypass interaction with Salieri, Sicily will offer opportunities to hunt down outlaws, execute stunt jumps across the map, and earn in-game currency known as Dinari. These Dinari can then be used to unlock a variety of new weapons, charms, vehicles, and outfits for the character Enzo.

Mafia: The Old Country - Man of Honor is scheduled to launch on August 14 for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
