Wizards of the Coast will offer a 24-hour purchase window for the upcoming Magic: The Gathering Hatsune Miku Commander deck, a new approach intended to meet high demand and prevent the sell-outs experienced with previous Secret Lair releases.
The Universes Beyond Commander deck, featuring the virtual pop idol Hatsune Miku, will be available for purchase starting August 10 at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET and concluding on August 11 at 8:59 AM PT / 11:59 AM ET. This limited ordering period aims to ensure that interested players have a fair opportunity to acquire the product. Some decks are slated to ship immediately, while others will be dispatched in May 2027 for customers in the U.S. and June 2027 for those in the E.U.
Matthew Hodgins, the new head of Secret Lair, explained that this sales format is a direct reaction to the overwhelming demand for the "Goblin Storm" Secret Lair preconstructed deck, which sold out within 30 minutes. This new strategy is an experiment inspired by the early days of Secret Lair, focusing on making fully playable products accessible to meet demand at its peak. If successful, this 24-hour window could be utilized for future high-demand, out-of-the-box playable products such as other Commander decks or specialty sets. However, Hodgins also noted that if the experiment does not yield positive results, Wizards of the Coast may reconsider its approach.
The 100-card green/white Commander deck is designed by longtime Magic: The Gathering designer Carmen Klomparens. The deck centers around Miku as Trostani, Selesnya's Voice, a legendary creature that can generate and copy tokens while also gaining life through its activated Populate ability. The deck's strategy involves token generation, the use of +1/+1 counters, and finishers like "Finale of Devastation" and "Halo Fountain" to secure victory. The full decklist includes several Miku-themed legendary creatures, such as "Miku, Voice of the People" (a reprint of Trostani, Selesnya's Voice), "Miku, the Complete Performer" (a reprint of Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger), and "Miku, Voice Over All" (a reprint of Shalai, Voice of Plenty), alongside a robust selection of creatures, enchantments, artifacts, instants, sorceries, and lands.
