Magic: The Gathering's new Foundations Commander decks, designed to introduce new players to the format, are once again available at their $30 MSRP on Amazon. However, a condition accompanies this restock: the decks are only being sold as a bundle of all five.
This presents a challenge for players who may have already acquired some of the decks or only wish to purchase specific ones, as buying them individually through Amazon currently incurs a price significantly above MSRP. Some individual decks have been seen to reach as high as $60, with the mono-green Tramplesaurus Rex deck notably listed for $79.95 by third-party sellers.
It remains unconfirmed whether this restock is due to a new print run or increased distribution, though Wizards of the Coast has been contacted for clarification.
The five mono-colored decks each offer a distinct playstyle. Reign of Dragons focuses on aggressive dragon tribal synergies, while Wretched Ranks provides a zombie-themed army-building experience. Keen Engineering offers a mono-blue control strategy, and Calling All Angels is a robust angel-focused deck. Tramplesaurus Rex, the mono-green option, emphasizes large creature combat and includes mana ramp cards.
While the decks contain reprints and alternate art for their respective commanders, their value is largely dependent on the price point and a player's experience level with Magic: The Gathering. The Foundations Commander decks echo a long-standing demand for accessible entry points into the Commander format, similar to earlier starter decks which have since seen significant price increases.
