Magic: The Gathering Hints at More KPop Demon Hunters Crossovers

Magic: The Gathering is planning further collaborations with the popular animated film KPop Demon Hunters, following the announcement of an upcoming Secret Lair drop. The official MTG Secret Lair account shared on X that its "Secret Lair x KPop Demon Hunters: How It’s Done" set, due out October 12 as part of the Corn Maze Superdrop, is just the beginning. "The crowd's already chanting for more. Good thing we've got more planned! Stay tuned," the post stated, indicating that additional KPop Demon Hunters-themed products are in development.

The initial Secret Lair set is named after "How It’s Done," the opening song from the 2025 film, which itself became a massive cultural phenomenon and record-breaker on Netflix. The success of the film has already spawned various tie-ins, including Lego sets and McDonald's promotional meals. The current crossover will feature cards inspired by the film's characters and themes, with the first drop including a reference to the character Sussie.

Fans have expressed a desire for further representation from the film within Magic: The Gathering. Suggestions include cards for Sussie's companion Derpy, as well as potential tie-ins to other songs like "Golden" and "Your Idol." There is also anticipation for unique token cards, similar to those created for The Hobbit Secret Lair, and a dedicated Commander deck, akin to the recent Hatsune Miku collaboration.

Wizards of the Coast has indicated a strategic shift towards more fantasy-themed licensed products within its Universes Beyond and Secret Lair lines, moving away from previous collaborations that received mixed fan reactions. Given KPop Demon Hunters' status as a modern fantasy narrative with a dedicated fanbase, it represents a fitting opportunity for continued engagement and product development. The film's narrative elements, such as demonic heritage and the protection of the world, offer rich thematic material for future Magic: The Gathering expansions. The franchise's popularity suggests that Hasbro will likely continue to leverage this partnership for future releases.
