Wizards of the Coast is releasing a new version of Magic: The Gathering’s Trinisphere artifact card, famed for its high price and disruptive effect, as part of a Secret Lair drop themed around Jim Henson’s Labyrinth. The new card, titled “I’ve Brought You a Gift,” features David Bowie as Jareth, the Goblin King, and draws flavor text directly from the 1986 film.
This new printing is part of the Secret Lair: Corn Maze Superdrop, which includes three distinct Labyrinth-themed releases. The “Fear Me, Love Me” drop focuses on Jareth and re-imagines six Magic cards with art and themes from the movie. "I've Brought You a Gift" transforms the original Trinisphere, depicting Jareth holding three crystals.
Trinisphere, first printed in 2004’s Darksteel, costs three generic mana and forces any spell that would cost less than three mana to cost three instead, provided Trinisphere remains untapped. This effect makes it a powerful tool in Stax and prison strategies, aimed at slowing down opponents. Its potency is reflected in its restricted use to one copy per deck in the Vintage format.
The original Darksteel printing of Trinisphere currently sells for around $35, with other nonfoil versions priced similarly. A Masterpiece version from Kaladesh Inventions can fetch over $166 on the secondary market. The entire non-foil “Fear Me, Love Me” drop is priced at $29.99, which could potentially impact the secondary market value of the original Trinisphere.
The “Fear Me, Love Me” drop also includes Muxus, Goblin Grandee as "Jareth, Goblin King" with art by Rebecca Guay, Boggart Shenanigans as “Call Out the Goblins!,” Dance with Calamity as “Dance with Goblins,” Goblin Rabblemaster as “Goblin Cradle-Thieves,” and Claim the Firstborn as “The Kidnapping of Toby.” The foil edition of this drop costs $39.99.
The Corn Maze Superdrop, featuring eight total releases, will be available for purchase starting October 12 at 9 a.m. PT. Customers spending $199 will also receive a foil Maze of Ith, reskinned as “The Labyrinth,” while supplies last.
