Magic: The Gathering's "Marvel: Darkhold Destiny" Set Preorders Now Open

Wizards of the Coast has officially revealed "Marvel: Darkhold Destiny," the latest Magic: The Gathering set born from the collaboration between the two entertainment giants. The set is slated for release on April 9, 2027, with preorders now available through local game stores, TCGplayer, Amazon, and other retailers.

According to Wizards of the Coast, the set's narrative revolves around a cabal of powerful sorcerers who attempted to seal away the Darkhold, only to unleash the darker elements of the Marvel Universe. Players can expect the arrival of devils, sorcerers, and vampire-hunting vampires, delving into Marvel's supernatural lore. An original story has been developed in partnership with Marvel, which will also be adapted into a special Marvel Comics release penned by Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly, scheduled for a digital release in February 2027 and a physical release in April.

Magik, a mutant sorceress recognizable from games like Marvel Rivals and Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, is the first character confirmed to appear in the set. Wizards of the Coast has indicated that "Marvel: Darkhold Destiny" will introduce numerous other highly anticipated Marvel heroes and villains making their debut in Magic: The Gathering.

The expansion will feature the main card set, Commander decks, Scene Boxes, and special collector-focused card designs. The Commander precon decks include "Lords of Hel" (red-black), "Gods of Asgard" (red-green-white), "Strange Academy" (white-blue-black), and "Midnight Sons" (white-black). Additionally, new "Booster Fun treatments" and updated designs from previous releases are promised for collectors.

"Marvel: Darkhold Destiny" continues Magic: The Gathering's Universes Beyond initiative, which integrates popular entertainment franchises into the trading card game. This follows previous Marvel-themed sets such as the "Marvel Spider-Man" set in 2025 and the "Marvel Super Heroes" expansion in 2026.
