Magic: The Gathering's latest Universes Beyond set, Marvel Super Heroes, has achieved record-breaking sales, surpassing previous benchmarks for day one and month one revenue. Despite its explosive launch, the set has yet to overtake the franchise's all-time best-selling set, Final Fantasy.

During Hasbro's Q2 2026 earnings call, CEO Chris Cocks announced that the Marvel Super Heroes set became the largest day one release in Magic's 33-year history. It also set a new record for the fastest set to reach $300 million in revenue. These achievements contributed to Magic: The Gathering exceeding $500 million in quarterly revenue for the first time, marking a 32% increase for the game in Q2. The Secrets of Strixhaven set, also released in the quarter, was previously declared the best-selling in-universe set of all time.

"Marvel Super Heroes set a record for day one and month one revenue and became the fastest set to reach $300 million in revenue with solid reorders and sell-through," Cocks stated, emphasizing Magic's position as a major entertainment franchise.

However, when questioned about the Marvel set's overall performance compared to the Final Fantasy crossover, Cocks clarified that Final Fantasy currently holds the title of Magic's biggest set ever. The Final Fantasy set, released with four Commander decks and later supplemented by scene boxes and a Chocobo Bundle, continues to see strong demand. One of its Commanders, Y’shtola, Night’s Blessed, has been identified as one of the most popular Commanders over the past two years.

Chief Financial Officer Gina Goetter further elaborated that the Marvel Super Heroes set is the second-largest Universes Beyond set to date, trailing behind Final Fantasy. The qualifier "yet" suggests optimism that the Marvel set could eventually close the gap, though its long-term staying power will be crucial. The success of future Universes Beyond sets, currently unannounced for 2027, may also play a role in Magic's continued sales trajectory.
