Wizards of the Coast has unveiled details for its upcoming Magic: The Gathering Star Trek Secret Lair drops, featuring reprints and new art inspired by various eras of the franchise. The collection includes several themed sets, with one notable reprint for Commander players: Thrasios, Triton Hero, reimagined as "Tendi, Exploring the Future" from Star Trek: Lower Decks. This set is part of a larger "Set Phasers to Superdrop" initiative that goes on sale November 9.
Thrasios, Triton Hero is a green-blue legendary merfolk wizard that costs one green and one blue mana, with a 1/3 stat line. Its ability allows players to scry 1 and then reveal the top card of their library, playing it if it's a land or drawing it otherwise, for a mana cost of four. This provides a flexible ramp engine that can be used multiple times per turn if mana is available. Crucially, Thrasios possesses the Partner ability, enabling players to have two commanders, which opens up numerous deck-building possibilities.
In the Star Trek: Lower Decks Secret Lair, Thrasios is depicted as Tendi and features art of the character with her genetically engineered pet, The Dog, accompanied by flavor text quoting the show. This Drop also includes reimagined versions of Mariner, Boimler, Rutherford, and the U.S.S. Cerritos. Rutherford is presented as Silas Renn, Seeker Adept, another card with the Partner ability, allowing for a Commander pairing composed entirely of Lower Decks characters.
The Star Trek: Lower Decks Secret Lair includes: Inti, Seneschal of the Sun as “Mariner, Breaching Protocol” (estimated value $1), Kambal, Profiteering Mayor as “Boimler, Citing Protocol” ($7), Silas Renn, Seeker Adept as “Rutherford, Rebuilding the Past” ($2), Thrasios, Triton Hero as “Tendi, Exploring the Future” ($20), and Weatherlight as “U.S.S. Cerritos, California-Class” ($1).
Other revealed Secret Lair drops include:
