Wizards of the Coast is set to release Magic: The Gathering: Star Trek on November 13, bringing characters and moments from across the franchise into the popular trading card game. Ahead of the release, IGN has secured exclusive reveals for seven new cards.
These cards span various eras of Star Trek, from the original series to more recent entries like Deep Space Nine and Lower Decks. Among the exclusive reveals is a common artifact named "Tea, Earl Grey, Hot," a nod to Captain Picard's signature beverage. This card is a two-mana artifact with the 'Food' subtype. When sacrificed, it can either restore 3 life or deal 2 damage to an opponent, offering a unique twist on the familiar Food Token mechanic.
A more mechanically complex card is "Mirror Universe Intrusion." This sorcery costs one colorless, one blue, and one black mana to cast, allowing the player to create a copy of an opponent's creature, granting it menace. For an additional four colorless, one blue, and one black mana (a total of nine mana), the spell's kicker effect allows the player to copy all of an opponent's creatures, giving each of them menace. The card also features alternate art treatments, including a borderless version and a showcase treatment reminiscent of classic Star Trek box art.
Other revealed cards include "Dahar Master," a four-mana 4/3 common creature with an ability to sacrifice a nonland permanent to deal 3 damage. "Unexplored Territory" is an artifact that can be tapped for colorless mana. While it can be sacrificed for one mana to search for a basic land, this cost makes it less efficient than similar cards like Evolving Wilds.
The Magic: The Gathering: Star Trek set is described as one of the most interesting "Universes Beyond" sets of the year, with anticipation building for how its artifact strategies will perform across different formats. This release follows Wizards of the Coast's recent announcement of "Darkhold Destiny" and other reveals at New York Comic Con.
