Magic: The Gathering is boldly going where no Magic card has gone before with its upcoming Star Trek expansion, set to release on November 20. This new set, which spans all 60 years of the franchise's history, will feature special "Headliner" cards that include authentic autographs from the actors who played iconic Star Trek characters. These premium variants will only be found in Collector Booster packs.
Two of these autographed Headliner cards were revealed: Captain James T. Kirk, signed by William Shatner, and Captain Kathryn Janeway, signed by Kate Mulgrew. According to principal art designer Tom Jenkot, approximately "a little north of 200" of each Headliner card will be available within Star Trek Collector Boosters. " IMAGE1. The Star Trek set will introduce new mechanics, including "Dilemma," which offers players additional benefits when casting modal spells with multiple options. This mechanic was demonstrated with a card for Seven of Nine from Star Trek Voyager.
In addition to the main expansion, the set will include a bonus sheet called "Stardates," featuring characters and scenes from across the Star Trek universe, including more recent film iterations. An example shown was Khan, Engineered Evil, a reprint of Sheoldred, The Apocalypse, as portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch in "Star Trek: Into Darkness." IMAGE2
The expansion will also launch with four preconstructed 100-card Commander decks. These decks are three-colored and follow specific themes: Federation Fleet (White/Blue/Red), Landing Party (White/Blue/Green), Klingon Fury (White/Black/Red), and We Are The Borg (White/Blue/Black).
