Marathon's Mid-Season Update Introduces Experimental PvE Mode

Marathon's second season receives a mid-season update on July 21st, featuring the introduction of Vault Breaker, an experimental Player versus Environment (PvE) mode. This new mode will allow players to engage with the game's challenging Cryo Archive map in solo, duo, or full crew configurations.

Vault Breaker is designed around a series of progressively challenging vaults, with a progression system unique to the mode that allows players to grow stronger over multiple matches. To enter a match, players must use a special sponsored kit. Any items acquired within the vaults will be lost upon exfiltration, with the exception of Vault Data. This new in-game currency can be spent to upgrade Vault Breaker sponsored kits and acquire gear for other game modes. The developers stated this approach aims to allow players to experience Cryo Archive without devaluing its high-tier loot by flooding the game economy.

The update also introduces the Cradle Evolution System. Once a player's cradle is maxed out, it can be reset, granting an additional maximum energy point and exclusive cosmetics such as new Runner shell styles. These cosmetics will become available later in the season, offering an early unlock for those who engage with the system.

Additionally, the update includes quality of life improvements and the addition of player profile statistics. Season 3 is slated to begin on September 22nd, promising a revamp of the Perimeter map with new areas, encounters, and gameplay elements, alongside a new Runner shell, weapons, and equipment.
