Marisha Ray, a prominent member of the Critical Role ensemble, is the latest addition to the cast of Square Enix's Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. During a New York Comic Con panel, it was announced that Ray will voice a digitized version of the iconic ice summon, Shiva, in the third and final installment of the remake trilogy. She joins fellow Critical Role castmates Matt Mercer and Travis Willingham, who are reprising their roles as Vincent Valentine and Sephiroth, respectively.
A clip shared by Square Enix on Instagram offers a preview of Ray's performance as Polydroid Shiva. This version of the summon appears to be integrated into the Gold Saucer's snowboarding mini-game, suggesting the return of this fan-favorite activity from the original 1997 game. In the preview, Polydroid Shiva challenges Vincent to demonstrate his snowboarding prowess.
During the panel, Mercer shared that the casting team was unaware of his marriage to Ray when they approached her for the role, leading to a humorous revelation about her earning the part. The panel also featured a look at the final recording sessions for the game, with voice actors Britt Baron (Tifa) and Briana White (Aerith) expressing emotional goodbyes to their characters, with Baron calling Tifa "the role of a lifetime."
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is scheduled for release on April 8, 2027. Details regarding the game's plot and potential twists remain scarce as Square Enix continues to adapt the beloved original narrative.
