Marvel Comics has revealed the lineup for a new X-Men series, titled "Maximum X-Men," set to launch in December. The team will be led by Storm, who is stepping into a role following the conclusion of the "Avengers — Armageddon" event. This new X-Men roster is intended to protect Earth-616 in the Avengers' absence.

The team will consist of familiar faces, including Wolverine, Colossus, Bishop, Iceman, Psylocke, Firestar, and Justice. Christopher Yost is writing the series, with art by Tony S. Daniel. Both creators are veterans of X-Men comics.

Yost described the new series as a blend of "underdog heroes saving the world from the biggest Avengers-level threats imaginable" with "mind-breaking action and drama," aiming for a classic X-Men feel.

The inaugural challenge for "Maximum X-Men" will be to confront an invasion originating from the Negative Zone. The official announcement poses the question of whether the antagonist will be Annihilus, a formidable villain from the 2006 "Annihilation" event, or a new threat.

A notable point of discussion from the cover art for "Maximum X-Men #1" involves the character of Psylocke. The Psylocke codename has a complex history within the X-Men mythos, having been associated with both Betsy Braddock and Kwannon. In recent years, this situation was addressed, with both characters regaining their original bodies and Betsy Braddock adopting the mantle of Captain Britain. While Kwannon has used the Psylocke title more recently, "Maximum X-Men" appears to feature Betsy Braddock in the role. Marvel has not yet provided details on how this iteration of Psylocke will be addressed within the series.

"Maximum X-Men #1" is scheduled for release on December 2.
