The collector-favorite Marvel Masterworks line is set to make a comeback in 2026, with Clover Press announcing its revival following Marvel's decision to shelve the series earlier this year. Clover Press is continuing the comprehensive, collector-friendly format of reprinting classic Marvel comics through a new crowdfunding initiative.
The initial Kickstarter campaign will focus on four hardcover collections: Marvel Masterworks: The Uncanny X-Men Vol. 18, Marvel Masterworks: Super-Villain Team-Up Vol. 1, Marvel Masterworks: The Mighty Thor Vol. 25, and Marvel Masterworks: The Tomb of Dracula Vol. 6. Each volume will be available with three cover variants, two of which adhere to the classic Masterworks aesthetic, with a third offering a more stylized design.
These new editions aim to present complete, chronological collections of classic Marvel material, meticulously restored to be as close to the original artwork as possible. In some instances, books have undergone painstaking rescanning and restoration from original art. Longtime series editor Cory Sedlmeier will continue his role overseeing the revived line.
The collected editions include:
- Marvel Masterworks: The Uncanny X-Men, Vol. 18 will collect issues 256-268 & Annual (1970) 14 of The Uncanny X-Men, along with material from Fantastic Four Annual (1963) 23, X-Factor Annual (1986) 5, and The New Mutants Annual (1984) 6, featuring an introduction by Chris Claremont.
- Marvel Masterworks: Super-Villain Team-Up, Vol. 1 will collect Giant-Size Super-Villain Team-Up (1975) 1-2, Super-Villain Team-Up (1975) 1-17, Marvel Spotlight (1971) 27, The Avengers (1963) 154-156, The Champions (1975) 16, and material from Marvel Preview (1975) 21, with an introduction by Roy Thomas.
- Marvel Masterworks: The Mighty Thor, Vol. 25 will collect The Mighty Thor (1966) 360-369 and Balder the Brave (1985) 1-4, featuring an introduction by Walter Simonson.
- Marvel Masterworks: The Tomb of Dracula, Vol. 6 will collect issues 56-70 of The Tomb of Dracula (1972), with an introduction by Kelley Jones.
According to Sedlmeier, each Masterworks volume features a new restoration surpassing all previous editions. He noted that over 40% of the final issue of Tomb of Dracula has been restored from original art due to prior reproduction issues, alongside extensive restorations for Jim Lee's X-Men work and Walter Simonson's Thor. The new line boasts 1200dpi reproduction and meticulous color restoration.
In addition to the core books, the Kickstarter campaign offers various bonuses, including a Premium Works collector box, Fact Files character cards, journals, buttons, stickers, mini prints, artist edition prints, postcards, and facsimile posters.
