Marvel Comics is set to relaunch its flagship Avengers title this fall, coinciding with the release of the film Avengers: Doomsday in December. This new series, helmed by writer Chip Zdarsky and artist Marco Checchetto, aims to profoundly transform Earth's Mightiest Heroes and explore their meaning in 2026, following the destructive events of Avengers: Armageddon.

The new Avengers series builds upon the themes explored in Avengers: Armageddon, where the team has been criticized for a perceived reluctance to use their full power. Writer Chip Zdarsky noted that Spider-Man and every other hero are contemplating the implications of power and responsibility. He also suggested that the meaning of the "Avengers" name itself will be re-examined, especially as the team's previous mission to avenge Steve Rogers concludes.

The roster for the new series features a less traditional lineup, including Spider-Man, Captain Marvel, Wolverine, Luke Cage, Daredevil, and a mystery character. Zdarsky explained that the team's composition is a direct result of the ending of Avengers: Armageddon, with story reasons being the primary driving factor. He also acknowledged that artist Marco Checchetto's preferences for drawing certain characters, like Spider-Man and Daredevil, played a role, but emphasized that each member is included for a solid narrative reason, focusing on their personalities and current life stages rather than just power levels.

The relaunch also comes in the context of Marvel's announcement of Maximum X-Men, a new mutant team led by Storm designed to fill a perceived void left by the Avengers. Zdarsky confirmed that the new Avengers are indeed operating more underground and off the radar, making it a more challenging time to be an Avenger, particularly with a public potentially wary of a group including Spider-Man and Wolverine.

The Avengers #1 is scheduled for release on November 4. It will be available for preorder at local comic shops.
