Marvel's Wolverine Exceeds Sales Expectations, Tops September Charts

Marvel's Wolverine has achieved considerable success on the sales charts, debuting as September's best-selling game and setting a new record for Sony-published titles in terms of launch-month dollar sales. According to data from Circana, the game's strong performance marked the highest debut for a Sony game since Helldivers 2 in February.

Circana's Mat Piscatella noted that Marvel's Wolverine was the top-selling game of September based on full game dollar sales and ranked as the 11th best-selling game of the year to date. The month was particularly competitive, with eight of the top ten best-selling games being new releases, including titles like Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, The Blood of Dawnwalker, and Onimusha: Way of the Sword. Despite this crowded field and being a PlayStation 5 exclusive, Marvel's Wolverine secured the top position.

Beyond direct sales, the game also had a notable impact on PlayStation 5 hardware sales. Dollar sales for the console increased by 43% in September, contributing to Sony's highest hardware dollar share in a month since May. Piscatella also highlighted Wolverine's success in breaking into the weekly active user charts, ranking seventh in the US, which is significant given the typical dominance of live-service games on such lists.

While Sony has not released official sales figures, estimates suggest Marvel's Wolverine sold approximately 1.9 million units by September 18, with physical sales accounting for nearly 800,000 units. This figure, while strong, was not enough to place it within the top 10 best-selling games of the year overall in the US, a list currently led by NBA 2K27. Other notable titles in the year-to-date top 10 include Resident Evil Requiem, 007 First Light, and MLB: The Show 26.

GameSpot's review of Marvel's Wolverine awarded it an 8/10, describing the experience as "fun but forgettable."
