A player exploring Insomniac's Marvel's Wolverine has stumbled upon glitches that allow them to venture out of bounds and discover the hidden edges of the game's map. YouTuber Turned shared videos demonstrating these exploits, which reveal various unrendered or unfinished elements.
In one instance, the player found a way to exit the playable area in the 'The One That Got Away' mission. This allowed for exploration of a larger space than intended, featuring elements such as floating trees and glitchy ground collision. The boundaries of the map in this area appear as squared-off edges.
Another video showcases a similar out-of-bounds glitch within the game's Japan environment. By bypassing certain obstacles, the player was able to leave the mission area and avoid the automatic respawn mechanic. This area revealed more detailed, albeit unfinished, environments including shops with interiors, and peculiar occurrences like cars phasing through walls and pedestrians seemingly unfazed by the anomalies. Floating NPCs and T-posing characters were also observed, common sights in out-of-bounds discoveries.
These findings are not unique to Marvel's Wolverine, with similar glitches being reported in numerous other games. However, the ease with which these specific exploits can be triggered in Marvel's Wolverine, often by simply climbing a wall or jumping over an object, has been noted. It is expected that developer Insomniac will address these issues in future updates.
Regarding the presence of such glitches in released games, one TT Games developer suggested that while Quality Assurance teams likely identified these issues, they may have been deprioritized during production. These bugs could have been intentionally deferred to a later patch or, in some cases, marked as 'Will Not Fix' to meet release deadlines.
Insomniac has previously stated its commitment to refining the player experience based on feedback. This has included discussions around in-game mechanics like Wolverine's scent trail, which some players have requested an option to disable. Other players have been testing the game's motorcycle sequences to determine if Logan can die if the player remains inactive.
