Sony has announced a limited-edition PlayStation 5 bundle and accessories for Insomniac Games' Marvel's Wolverine, dubbed the Battle Yellow Limited Edition. This new hardware features a vibrant yellow finish and artwork by graphic artist Jock, who has previously contributed to comic books and film projects like Dredd. The design showcases exposed claw marks revealing the console's chassis, drawing inspiration from Wolverine's "Battle Reborn" costume.
The Marvel's Wolverine Battle Yellow Limited Edition Bundle is priced at $650 and will be available in two configurations: a PS5 Digital Edition that includes a matching DualSense wireless controller and a download code for the game, or console covers for both the standard PS5 and the PS5 Pro models. The accompanying $85 DualSense controller, featuring the same artwork on a yellow background, will also be available for standalone purchase.
Jock described his approach to the design, stating, "I wanted to show Wolverine at his fiercest for Marvel’s Wolverine Limited Edition PS5 Console bundle and accessories. I still draw all my artwork traditionally, so the opportunity to marry cutting-edge hardware with the energy and looseness of hand-drawn ink is incredibly exciting. I’m stunned by how well the console and accessories captured the raw energy of the drawing, bringing Wolverine to life in a completely unique way."
An alternate set of PS5 Pro console covers and a DualSense controller will also be available, featuring Jock's illustration on a silver background, intended to evoke the adamantium that forms Wolverine's skeleton. These accessories are slated for release on September 15, coinciding with the launch of Marvel's Wolverine.
Compared to the PlayStation 4 generation, Sony has released fewer limited-edition PS5 consoles, with many of the previous designs being described as either too subtle or overly flashy. While some limited-edition DualSense controllers, such as those for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Marathon, and Concord, have been praised for their distinct designs, their aesthetics have not always translated to console hardware. The Marvel's Wolverine editions are presented as a notable departure, aiming to capture the raw energy of the character and the game's aesthetic.
