Insomniac Games has detailed several features designed to provide replayability in its upcoming title, Marvel's Wolverine, including the inclusion of New Game Plus available from day one. Unlike the developer's open-world Spider-Man series, Marvel's Wolverine is structured as a linear, story-driven experience focusing on Logan's personal journey.
Senior project director Jess Reiner-Reed and head of technology Mike Fitzgerald spoke with IGN about the game's post-credits content. Elements like whiskey bottles, which aid in progression, and material crates, used for unlocking suits, are scattered throughout the game. Additionally, players will encounter "Nightmare Doors," which present unique trials. Reiner-Reed described these as manifestations of Logan's inner turmoil, with various trials available, such as the "Shinjuku Shuffle" encountered during a recent hands-on session.
The game will also incorporate a Mission Replay feature, allowing players to revisit any mission to find missed collectibles. A significant addition confirmed for launch is New Game Plus. This mode will enable players to carry over their unlocked loadouts and progression, allowing for the use of any suit and access to new adaptations. Fitzgerald noted that these adaptations can either increase the game's difficulty or make Logan a significantly more powerful character, offering fresh gameplay experiences.
These replayability features aim to address potential concerns about the game's longevity, given its linear nature. While the joy of exploration and free-roam movement, a hallmark of Insomniac's Spider-Man titles, will be less prominent, the focus is expected to shift towards combat mastery and Logan's character progression. The game will feature a suit collection system, similar to its predecessors.
