Insomniac Games has released a new update for Marvel's Wolverine, version 1.001.006, which introduces an option for players to disable controversial scent trails used for locating collectibles. This update addresses community feedback regarding the game's perceived 'hand-holding' mechanics.
The patch adds three new toggle settings in the game's options menu: one for Whiskey Bottle scent trails, one for Material Crate audio clues, and one for Nightmare Door Roots. The scent trails and audio cues for Whiskey Bottles and Material Crates were particularly contentious, leading to player requests for more customization. The new toggles allow players to turn these visual and auditory guides off entirely if they find them distracting. However, the game's settings note that using Wolverine's Crate Finder and Whiskey Finder Adaptations will override these toggles. Story-critical senses, such as those used to track Jean in specific missions, will remain active regardless of player settings.
Beyond the toggle options, the update also aims to resolve several crashes and glitches reported by the community. Insomniac has fixed an issue where players could become stuck while sliding down a tree during the "The One That Got Away" mission, and a bug causing misaligned claws in photo mode has also been addressed. Additionally, a rare issue where objects could turn white after extended play sessions and a graphical bug involving overlapping bathroom signs in the casino have been resolved.
Previously, the conversation surrounding Marvel's Wolverine's launch had focused on elements like collectible indicators, a motorcycle chase sequence, and references players had humorously dubbed 'fart gas.' Insomniac had already begun to make these features less intrusive, reducing trail opacity in a prior update without removing them entirely. The studio has indicated a commitment to listening to community feedback, with studio director of community and marketing James Stevenson reiterating this stance following the new update. Marvel's Wolverine is available now exclusively on PlayStation 5.
