Insomniac Games has released a new patch for Marvel's Wolverine that allows players to toggle the game's story-related scent trails on and off. The update, which went live on October 6, addresses months of player complaints that the visual cues were too intrusive and detracted from exploration.
The scent trails are now an optional 'hint' feature that can be activated by pressing the R3 button on the PlayStation 5 controller. Insomniac stated on X that this change was a direct response to community feedback. The update also gives players more control over the visibility of audio cues and nightmare roots, allowing for a less guided experience.
This latest patch follows a series of adjustments Insomniac has made to the game's guidance systems. In late September, the developer provided an option to disable scent trails for specific items like whiskey bottles, material crates, and nightmare doors. Prior to that, the intensity of the scent trails' visuals was reduced by lowering their opacity.
Insomniac has indicated a commitment to refining the player experience based on community input. In a September 15 message, the developer assured players that it was actively gathering feedback to improve the game. The scent trails and other visual aids, such as white paint marking paths, have been significant points of discussion among the player base.
Update 1.002.001 for Marvel's Wolverine includes the following changes:
- Adds the option to toggle story-related Scent trails using the Hint button (default on R3).
- Addresses additional community-reported issues related to crashes and bugs to improve game stability.
