Marvel's Wolverine Update Reduces Intensity of Scent Trails

Insomniac Games has released a new update for Marvel's Wolverine that addresses one of the game's most frequently criticized features: the scent trails. The hotfix, version 1.001.005, was deployed on September 18 and focuses on reducing the visual intensity of the scent trails and Audio Sense indicators, making them less obtrusive.

This update comes in response to player feedback, with many finding the game's hand-holding elements, particularly the scent trails, to be overly conspicuous. Previously, these trails appeared as bright blue lines that some players felt clashed with the game's environments and detracted from the immersive experience. The latest patch adjusts their presentation, making them appear cloudier and less defined while still serving their purpose of guiding players.

In addition to the visual adjustments, Insomniac Games has indicated that they are continuing to evaluate ways to improve the Sense system. The studio is exploring the possibility of adding toggleable options for scent trails in a future update, suggesting that a complete removal option may become available.

James Stevenson, Insomniac's director of communications and marketing, previously acknowledged the team's awareness of player feedback, stating that they were actively working on responses. While Marvel's Wolverine has received a more muted reception compared to some other PlayStation exclusives, Insomniac's prompt attention to player concerns highlights their commitment to refining the game post-launch.
