Marvel has reportedly enlisted Amit Cohen and Ron Leshem, creators of the original Israeli series Euphoria, to write its upcoming Disney Plus spy thriller, Zodiac. The series, first announced at New York Comic Con, is expected to focus on spies pursuing targets with special abilities.
Leshem, who also served as an executive producer on the American adaptation of Euphoria, has collaborated with Cohen on previous projects, including the Hulu series No Man's Land. Their involvement marks a significant step in the development of Zodiac, a show that has been met with a mix of intrigue and concern given Marvel's recent scaling back of its television output. Series like Wonder Man have seen season cancellations, while others like VisionQuest and Daredevil: Born Again are concluding their runs.
The exact plot of Zodiac remains somewhat mysterious, though its title card, featuring a zodiac wheel and the SHIELD logo, suggests a connection to the clandestine organization. The show is described as a spy series, and a new report indicates its narrative will involve spies tracking individuals with "special abilities."
Speculation is rife that Zodiac may draw inspiration from the Secret Warriors comic, which featured an iteration of the Zodiac organization composed of master spies. This comic's plot, involving HYDRA's infiltration of SHIELD, has drawn parallels to events in the MCU, including Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Agents of SHIELD. The potential connection to Agents of SHIELD has been further fueled by fan theories, especially after Clark Gregg, who played Phil Coulson in the series, shared the Zodiac announcement on social media.
Production for Zodiac is slated to begin next year, leaving fans to await further official details as the series develops. It remains unclear if SWORD, which has largely replaced SHIELD in the current MCU timeline, will feature in the show.
