Marvel Snap is set to launch a new season that draws heavily from the 2014 Marvel Comics crossover event, Axis: Inversion. This update introduces a slew of cards and mechanics that invert the traditional alignments and abilities of familiar heroes and villains, promising a shake-up to the game's established meta.

The Axis: Inversion storyline in the comics saw major characters experience moral reversals, with heroes acting villainously and villains exhibiting heroic traits. Marvel Snap's interpretation translates this concept into new card abilities and stats, offering a glimpse into what characters like Iron Man or Carnage might be like if their moral compasses were flipped.

Leading the charge as the Premium Pass card is Superior Iron Man. This inverted version of the Armored Avenger features an Ongoing ability that doubles any power increases, including cost reductions. This synergy allows for potent strategies, especially when combined with cards that offer dual-value buffs or cost reductions. Developers suggest that pairing Superior Iron Man with cards like Phastos, Mother Askani, Sera, and Psylocke could lead to game-changing plays on Turn Six. A specific combo mentioned involves America Chavez, granting Iron Man a significant power boost and potentially turning him into a 5/13 card, further enhanced by cards like Gwenpool and Okoye to improve draw consistency. Counter-strategies for players facing Superior Iron Man include cards like Shadow King to reset power, Enchantress to nullify Ongoing abilities, Rogue to steal them, and Mobius M. Mobius to limit his cost.

For owners of the Super Premium Pass, Anti-Polar Magneto offers a unique way to fill zones. His On-Reveal ability allows players to place a single three- or four-cost card from their hand into each location. This can be used to strategically deploy cards with strict placement conditions, such as Cull Obsidian, Crossbones, and Drax, on the final turn. Other cards in this cost bracket, like Silver Surfer and Shang-Chi, could also benefit from this ability for last-minute wins.

New cards available through Seasonal Series 5 Snap Packs include Red Onslaught, the ultimate form of Red Skull. He comes with three random Ongoing abilities, offering a low-cost, albeit unpredictable, way to disrupt opponents. Kluh, an inverted take on the Hulk, features an On Reveal ability that reduces the cost of cards in each player's hand by one for each different cost of cards currently in play. This could potentially make high-cost cards free to play if a player has managed their cards' costs effectively throughout the match.

Rogue: Scion of Division is another notable addition. Unlike her standard counterpart, this variant steals the text of the highest-cost card in an opponent's hand, making her a potent counter against decks reliant on expensive cards like Knull or Onslaught.

Friendly Neighborhood Carnage presents a heroic version of the symbiote. His ability moves all cards to the right at his location and gains +2 power for each card moved. This makes him a strong fit for move-focused decks, potentially synergizing with cards like The Human Torch, Dagger, and Spider-Man 2099.

Scarlet Witch: Queen of Chaos provides an "extremely" random skill card to the player's hand for free on the next turn, offering an element of surprise.

Additionally, two new cards will be introduced as Series 4 cards: Entropic Havok, available September 16, which steals one bonus energy from an opponent each turn if they have any; and The Inversion, available September 28, featuring an On Reveal ability that inverts the power of the lowest-power card(s) at its location, turning positive power negative and vice versa.

New locations are also being added to complement these new mechanics. Stark Island, premiering September 9, reduces the cost of a card in each hand by one at the end of each turn. Jean Grey School, debuting September 23, allows cards at its location to be moved on turn five. These additions are expected to work well with the new season's theme and existing synergistic card abilities, particularly those focused on cost reduction and movement.
