Marvel Studios is actively developing a film based on the cosmic superhero Nova, with Michael Waldron, known for his work on Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, set to write and possibly direct the project. The film is currently in its early stages of development.

This marks a renewed effort to bring Nova to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a character whose introduction has been considered for over a decade. Nova was originally slated to appear in Guardians of the Galaxy in the early 2010s but was ultimately cut from the script. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has previously expressed interest in adapting the character.

While a Nova television series was previously in development with Moon Knight writer Sabir Pirzada, that project was put on hold. The shift to a film indicates Marvel's continued commitment to integrating Nova into the MCU's future narrative.

Nova is associated with the Nova Corps, an intergalactic police force that wields the Nova Force, a powerful cosmic energy source. The character's introduction might follow the events of Avengers: Secret Wars, suggesting a potential role in reshaping the MCU's landscape post-multiverse conflict. The departure of James Gunn from the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise could also open avenues for Nova to fill a prominent cosmic role. However, Marvel has faced challenges in introducing new characters effectively since Endgame, making the audience reception to Nova a point of interest.
