Arc System Works has issued an apology for the troubled PC launch of Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, with producer Takeshi Yamanaka admitting that rebuilding player trust will be an "extremely challenging" endeavor. While the game has garnered positive feedback regarding its core content and tag-team gameplay, issues on the PC version have significantly impacted player perception.
Yamanaka noted in an interview that players are actively engaging with the game, developing new combos and sharing them on social media. However, he acknowledged that "in the PC version of the game, there have been in-game issues experienced by many players, which we really apologize to the player base for all of these problems."
Marvel Tokon launched on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on August 6, 2026. Despite receiving high scores from many reviewers, PC players took to Steam to voice their dissatisfaction. Within 24 hours of release, the game's Steam reviews dropped to "Mixed" across all languages due to reported stuttering issues and a mandatory PlayStation sign-in requirement. These problems persisted into the weekend following its release, with the studio initially only stating it would "investigate" reports of performance issues.
The situation was highlighted when prominent fighting game content creator Maximilian Christiansen, known as Maximilian Dood, uninstalled the game live on stream in front of thousands of viewers due to the persistent issues.
Arc System Works responded by releasing an update the following Monday, which addressed many of the performance problems. Although Steam reviews have seen a slight recovery, Yamanaka acknowledged that the path forward for both the game and the studio requires continued effort.
"The team is hard at work to continue working on resolving remaining issues," Yamanaka stated, referencing multiple patches released since the initial launch. He also emphasized that improving the game's technical state is only part of the challenge, stating, "I do think that it's an extremely challenging task that we need to undertake... where we sincerely want to put all of our effort forward to create an environment where the players can experience this game that we’ve worked so hard to create."
Yamanaka reiterated his apologies for the "trouble" the PC version's issues caused players. He expressed hope that the community will remain engaged, not just for upcoming fixes but for the game itself. He thanked players who purchased the game at launch, particularly those on PC who encountered issues and may have requested refunds or stopped playing. "I would like to just say that I truly appreciate every single player who purchased the game around the launch," he said. "And to some players on the PC who were kind enough to purchase the game, but then they experienced these issues and were unable to play the game in its best way, and maybe left the game for the moment or even refunded. I would just like to express my sincere apologies for all of those issues that they’ve experienced."
He admitted that regaining lost trust will not be easy but stressed that the team is addressing the situation directly. "We're trying to tackle it directly to try to continue working with all that we have and to provide an environment where players will be able to smoothly experience the game," he added. The producer concluded by stating that the team will continue to do their best with future updates, hoping their dedication will be recognized by the player base.
Despite the rocky start on PC, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is set to receive additional content. Phoenix Cyclops has already been announced as a playable character for a fall release, and dataminers have identified five more potential fighters.
