Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls has received its first post-launch patch for PC, aiming to resolve several technical issues that have plagued players since its release. Arc System Works acknowledged the problems, stating that the update focuses on reducing performance issues, improving stability, and fixing specific bugs.
Performance Improvements
The patch includes multiple fixes designed to lower overall CPU usage, which had been a reported issue during the game's startup process and even during matches. A particular focus was placed on addressing sudden performance drops, which were identified as being caused by the game unnecessarily checking for available audio inputs. This repetitive check has now been resolved. Additionally, an issue causing frame rate drops when specific resolutions were selected has been fixed.
Bug Fixes
Beyond performance, the update also tackles several gameplay bugs. A fix has been implemented for an issue in the Battle Settings where restarting the game with certain customization items or colors enabled would cause these settings to revert to default. In online lobbies, a bug that made certain buttons unresponsive during mini-games after changing the display of attack buttons to action icons has also been addressed.
Shader Compilation
Following the installation of the new patch, PC players will be prompted to undergo a shader compilation process. It is recommended to complete this for a smoother gameplay experience. The patch also improves the auto graphics quality setting to better detect a user's system specifications and select a more appropriate graphics profile.
While Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls holds a strong aggregate review score of 88 on Metacritic, user feedback on Steam has been considerably lower, with many citing the launch weekend technical problems as a significant detractor. Issues ranged from unstable online lobbies to the mandatory PlayStation Network profile requirement. For players who have yet to jump into the brawler, or those experiencing issues, this patch aims to provide a more polished PC experience. Performance on the PlayStation 5 is reported to be smoother.
