Modders have been working for three years to restore Mass Effect 3's multiplayer mode to the Legendary Edition. The ME3Tweaks modding team is preparing to release their project, which they describe as an "extensive remaster" rather than a simple port.
The mod introduces several improvements, including support for native Legendary Edition features like controller input and HDR, an overhauled user interface, rebaked level lighting, updated textures and shaders, and enhanced networking for improved server replication. The team has also focused on extensive bug fixes and introduced new gameplay modes, such as "Unified," which combines enemies from various factions. Players will have the option to join the ME3Tweaks team's servers or establish their own private servers.
This initiative follows the ME3Tweaks team's previous work in reviving the Pinnacle Station expansion, a piece of DLC for the original Mass Effect that was also absent from the Legendary Edition. The multiplayer mod is slated for release on N7 Day, a date that also marks the planned release of a re-scored version of the leaked Mass Effect Universe trailer by composer Sam Hulick.
