Mass Effect Successor Exodus Reveals Redesigned Protagonist After Fan Feedback

Following the recent announcement of BioWare's studio closure and the cancellation of the next Mass Effect game, attention has turned to Exodus, a sci-fi RPG aiming to fill the void left by the beloved franchise. Developer Archetype Entertainment has responded to community feedback by revealing a redesigned protagonist for the upcoming title.

The new trailer for Exodus showcases a revised appearance for the main character, Jun. The original design had faced criticism from fans, with some likening it unfavorably to being "stung by a bee." The updated design has been met with a more positive reception, with some players noting a resemblance to Jim Hawkins from Disney's Treasure Planet. Studio co-founder Chad Robertson stated that the redesign was a direct result of conversations with the community.

While the game will allow players to select Jun's gender and customize features like hair, the core facial structure remains consistent. Archetype Entertainment has yet to reveal the appearance of the female version of Jun, despite the game's planned release in approximately six months.

The fate of BioWare and the next Mass Effect game was confirmed on October 21st, when EA announced the studio's closure and the cancellation of its upcoming title. This news prompted widespread mourning within the gaming industry. A trailer for the canceled game subsequently surfaced online, hinting at an espionage-themed direction for the series and featuring an older Liara T'Soni. The loss of this project leaves players hoping that titles like Exodus can offer a comparable experience.
