Amazon has announced that the live-action Masters of the Universe movie will be available for Prime Video subscribers starting this Wednesday, July 22, 2026. This streaming release comes less than two months after the film’s debut in theaters.
The Masters of the Universe adaptation, a modern take on Mattel's toy line, has grossed $113 million globally against a reported budget of around $200 million. While it did not meet box office expectations, the film received praise for its appreciation of the source material, including its fantastical names, and for not taking itself too seriously. The 21st-century interpretation featured Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam and He-Man, Camila Mendes as Teela, and Jared Leto in a notable performance as Skeletor.
The movie's theatrical run faced challenges, struggling against a summer slate dominated by lower-budget horror films. This quick transition to streaming suggests Amazon is positioning the film to drive Prime subscriptions, potentially giving it a second life on a platform that boasts a large subscriber base.
Director Travis Knight had previously expressed interest in expanding the Masters of the Universe reboot into a franchise, though no updates on these plans have emerged since the film's release. Knight is currently slated to direct an animated adaptation of Susanna Clarke's Piranesi for Laika Studios, which is also releasing a new original film, Wildwood, in October.
