Fortnite is crossing over with Christopher Nolan's upcoming film "The Odyssey," introducing the legendary Greek hero Odysseus to the battle royale experience. The announcement coincided with the film's theatrical debut and a teaser trailer that reimagined key scenes from "The Odyssey" within the Fortnite engine. While the exact in-game integrations remain to be seen, early indications suggest that players will be able to don the likeness of Matt Damon's portrayal of Odysseus.
The "Odyssey x Fortnite" crossover event offers players a chance to acquire Odysseus-themed cosmetic rewards. A dedicated Fortnite Cup, described as "The cup of the legendary hero of the Trojan War!", will grant top competitors early access to these items before they become available in the in-game shop. The first of these competitive events is scheduled to begin tonight at 7:00 p.m. ET.
This collaboration brings a figure from the foundational texts of Western literature into the popular video game. The arrival of Odysseus, specifically as depicted by Matt Damon, marks a unique intersection of ancient epic and modern gaming culture, allowing players to embody a character from a 3,000-year-old story within the context of Fortnite's contemporary gameplay.
