Matt Damon's 2026 Netflix thriller, The Rip, has officially been crowned the platform's most-streamed movie of the year, according to Nielsen data. The crime thriller has accumulated an impressive 4.432 billion minutes watched, placing it significantly ahead of other popular titles.

This viewership figure comfortably outpaced fellow Netflix original War Machine, which ranked second with 3.531 billion minutes viewed. Other notable films that made Nielsen's list of the year's biggest streaming movies through June, including Ryan Coogler's Sinners, Jurassic World Rebirth, and Sony's Anaconda reboot, did not come close to matching The Rip's audience.

The Rip, directed by Joe Carnahan, centers on a group of Miami police officers whose lives unravel after they discover millions of dollars hidden in a stash house. The plot escalates into paranoia and betrayal as the officers suspect an internal leak. The film features a supporting cast that includes Steven Yeun, Kyle Chandler, Teyana Taylor, and Nestor Carbonell.

This success marks another collaboration between Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, who also co-stars in the film. The duo, known for their partnership since winning an Academy Award for Good Will Hunting in 1998, have previously worked together on projects like Dogma, The Last Duel, and Air.

Audiences can anticipate another Damon-Affleck collaboration soon. Affleck is set to direct and co-star alongside Damon in Animals, an upcoming Netflix crime thriller that also features Gillian Anderson, Kerry Washington, Steven Yeun, Ray Fisher, and Adriana Paz. While plot details remain scarce, the substantial viewership of The Rip suggests Netflix may have another hit on its hands with their next venture.
