Matt Smith, known for his roles in "Doctor Who" and "House of the Dragon," has voiced his astonishment at reports of Keanu Reeves being seen watching "Morbius" during a flight. "F*** off, you are joking!" Smith exclaimed when the news was brought up on the Brittany Broski's Royal Court podcast, according to IGN. "He must have been having a moment. He was on the valium or something."
Smith, who portrayed Milo in the 2022 film, expressed his admiration for Reeves while questioning the "Matrix" star's choice of in-flight entertainment. "I love Keanu Reeves, I just want to make that really clear," Smith stated. "Not f***ing Morbius, Jesus Christ. My god, [Reeves] must have really gone through the British Airways library to be getting to that."
Released as part of Sony's Spider-Man Universe (SSU) experiments, "Morbius," starring Jared Leto, was met with widespread criticism from both reviewers and audiences, eventually becoming the subject of internet memes. IGN's review at the time scored the film a 5/10, describing its origin story as lacking "fangs and bite" and marred by "shoddy computer-digital fights and an overly serious tone."
This is not the first time Smith has commented on the film's reception. He previously suggested that "Morbius" had been "thrown under the bus" and told Rolling Stone that while the film didn't work out as intended, it was a minor issue in the grand scheme of things. "It is what it is," he remarked.
Sony has continued its SSU film efforts with "Madame Web" and "Kraven the Hunter," following the commercially successful "Venom" trilogy. Currently, no further live-action SSU films are reported to be in production.
Next for the character of Spider-Man is the highly anticipated MCU entry "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," with Sony's animated "Spider-Verse" sequel scheduled for release next year.
