Meccha Chameleon has achieved significant commercial success on PC, ranking second in revenue for June in several Western countries, trailing only Fortnite, according to an analysis by Newzoo shared by GamesIndustry.biz. This places the popular hide-and-seek title above established games like Counter-Strike 2, Valorant, and League of Legends within that specific market.

Mert Şahin, a Newzoo analyst, highlighted that the game's rapid and substantial success demonstrates the potential for lower-budget, socially driven multiplayer experiences to achieve considerable commercial results. Factors contributing to its rise include a low barrier to entry, both in terms of cost and system requirements, amplified by widespread viral popularity across social media platforms such as YouTube.

A separate list for console games shows a different ranking, though Fortnite maintains its leading position across both platforms. Other consistent performers across both PC and console revenue charts include titles like Minecraft and Marvel Rivals.

The game's trajectory draws parallels to the 2020 phenomenon of Among Us, which also saw a meteoric rise in popularity and has maintained a presence through various collaborations and media adaptations. Meccha Chameleon is also teasing its own first collaboration.

Despite facing issues such as cheating and AI-generated imitations, the core gameplay experience has been praised. Lincoln Carpenter of PC Gamer described it as "a delightfully elevated take on hide-and-seek," adding that "Meccha Chameleon's game of competitive camouflage is a multiplayer experience that exceeds its friendslop trappings."
