Critical Role has embarked on a new Daggerheart miniseries, "Age of Umbra: Sallowlands," presenting a cast of characters that draw comparisons to the dark fantasy aesthetic of Elden Ring. The gothic miniseries, which premiered on July 9, unfolds in the desolate Halcyon Domain and follows a group of adventurers searching for hope and salvation.

The new miniseries features Critical Role co-founder Laura Bailey as Sister, Jennifer English as Dillwyn and her companion Badger, Abubakar Salim as Mercy, Vico Ortiz as Caguama, and Zachery Renauldo as Alphonse. Matthew Mercer serves as the Dungeon Master for "Sallowlands."

Sister

Sister, portrayed by Laura Bailey, is a Fungril—a humanoid mushroom—and a Hedge Witch. While not the first Fungril Bailey has played, this character is a departure from more cheerful archetypes. Sister has left her community behind in a quest to find a cure for the "drain of magic" that affects her and other witches. She also appears to have a connection to Mercy, though the exact nature of their relationship, whether based on shared ancestry or prior encounters, remains to be seen.

Mercy

Abubakar Salim voices Mercy, a Giant-Fungril who embodies the Juggernaut Brawler class. Mercy's approach to problems is direct and forceful, characterized by a "punch first" mentality. Despite his imposing stature and fighting style, he is depicted as a sweet and thoughtful individual with a deep care for his friend Dillwyn and her bat companion, Badger. Mercy is drawn to the Sallowlands by rumors of a utopian city, a stark contrast to the corrupted Halcyon Domain. A significant mystery surrounding Mercy is his lack of memory regarding his past or the body he currently inhabits. Dillwyn Hellekin and Badger

Jennifer English plays Dillwyn, a Wildborne Simiah and Beastbound Ranger, accompanied by her companion Badger, a pig-like bat with whom she shares a unique communicative bond. Dillwyn is described as fast and charming, though her origins are still undisclosed. Her primary motivation for venturing into the Sallowlands is her friendship with Mercy. As an evasive and powerful ranger, Dillwyn's swift movements are crucial for the party's progress. Dillwyn Hellekin and her bat companion Badger from Critical Role's Age of Umbra: Sallowlands

Alphonse

Zachery Renauldo portrays Alphonse, a Reborne Elf and member of the Order of the Specter Blood Hunter. The party encounters Alphonse during a battle with a bounty hunter. Unlike the others, Alphonse is skeptical of the rumored utopian city, viewing it as a potential trap. His goal in traveling to this mystical place is to uncover its true nature and prevent others from being harmed. Alphonse, a Reborne Elf Blood Hunter from Critical Role's Age of Umbra: Sallowlands

Caguama

Vico Ortiz plays Caguama, a Seaborne Galapa and Divine Wielder Seraph. Caguama presents a gentle demeanor, reminiscent of a kind elder, which contrasts with the more aggressive members of the party. Notably, Caguama lived before the Halcyon Domain lost its gods, making him over a century old. His diplomatic approach and tendency to see the good in situations may prove vital for the group as they navigate the challenges ahead.
