Capcom has revealed Mega Man: Dual Override, the first new entry in the classic Mega Man series since 2018. The game introduces significant gameplay changes, including "Custom Chips" to modify abilities and an "Override" system for temporary power boosts.
The "Override" system allows Mega Man to push beyond his normal capabilities, a concept Capcom describes as "overriding his limits and powering up for a new adventure." This manifests in gameplay seen in the debut trailer, where Mega Man utilizes a barrage of projectiles, hovers over hazards, and dashes rapidly around enemies. These modifications appear to draw heavily on the robot's internal power, with visible heatsinks exposed during intense combat sequences, suggesting a risk of overheating. In one moment reminiscent of the Gundam Unicorn's Destroy Mode, Mega Man unleashes an extremely powerful, overcharged shot that instantly defeats a boss but leaves him sparking and smoking.
Mega Man: Dual Override is slated for a 2027 release. The game is now available to wishlist on Steam.
