Spanish studio MercurySteam, known for its work on Metroid Dread, has seemingly confirmed its involvement in the development of Metroid Ravenous. This confirmation addresses lingering questions following yesterday's Nintendo Direct showcase, where the new Metroid title was revealed.
Speculation arose due to MercurySteam's absence from the Metroid Ravenous trailer and accompanying press materials, as well as a lack of activity on the studio's social media channels. While Nintendo often withholds developer details until closer to a game's release, MercurySteam has now retweeted the Metroid Ravenous trailer, adding a ninja and heart emoji, which is interpreted as a signal of their involvement in a stealth development capacity. The company also shared the trailer on LinkedIn.
Metroid Ravenous appears to adopt a similar side-scrolling adventure format to Metroid Dread, though it reportedly features a more colorful presentation and plays with perspective more frequently. The gameplay montage shown during the Nintendo Direct highlighted its energetic pace.
MercurySteam, also recognized for the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow series, recently developed Blades of Fire, an original game that underperformed financially, leading to company restructuring and layoffs. The studio's return to developing a Metroid title is seen as a positive development.
Metroid Ravenous is slated for release exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2 on January 28, 2027.
