Developer 4A Games is preparing next-generation updates for Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light, bringing the acclaimed post-apocalyptic shooters to modern hardware ahead of the upcoming Metro 2039. The new versions will launch on PC on October 22 and on consoles on October 29.
While Metro 2039 aims to fully leverage current-generation capabilities, these updates will enhance the technical performance of the earlier titles. For PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, the games will support native 4K at 60 frames per second or upscaled 4K at 120 fps. The PS5 version will incorporate PSSR, while Xbox consoles will utilize temporal upscaling. PC players will benefit from the addition of DLSS support, alongside other quality-of-life improvements. Specific patch notes are expected closer to the release dates.
Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light were initially released in 2010 and 2013, respectively, and received a remaster in 2014. However, Metro 2033, in particular, has presented challenges for modern hardware, often requiring manual adjustments for stable performance. These updates are intended to address long-standing bugs and improve overall stability. Notably, the updates are not expected to introduce demanding features like ray tracing, suggesting the games should be more accessible on contemporary systems compared to their original launches.
