The Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration set is proving to be a treasure trove for collectors, featuring a range of valuable cards from nostalgic reprints to new Special Illustration Rares and exceptionally scarce secret rares. The 15 most valuable cards from the set, based on current market prices, span a wide spectrum from around $50 to several thousand dollars.
The collection includes cards from both the main 30th Celebration set and its accompanying Classic Collection. Market prices are primarily sourced from TCGplayer, with PriceCharting used for cards lacking a reliable TCGplayer market price.
Classic Collection Reprints
The Classic Collection component of the 30th Celebration set contributes significantly to the list of valuable cards. Among these is the Pikachu & Zekrom GX Tag Team card, originally from the 2019 Team Up expansion, which represents an early instance of the powerful Tag Team mechanic.
Another notable Classic Collection entry is the Gengar Prime card, originally from the HeartGold and SoulSilver era. Prime cards, which have not been seen since their debut, are highly sought after by collectors aiming for master sets.
More recently, the Magikarp Illustration Rare from the Paldea Evolved expansion has also found its way into the Classic Collection. This card's value has surged due to its striking artwork, featuring a black-and-white background, chiaroscuro lighting, and a distant Gyarados.
Special Illustration Rares and Futuristic Rares
Beyond the Classic Collection, the 30th Celebration set introduces new rarities, including Special Illustration Rares (SIRs) and Futuristic Rares. Jirachi ex, with its stunning full-art illustration by AKIRA EGAWA, is one of the standout SIRs.
Sylveon ex also features a highly desirable SIR rendition, illustrated by You Iribi, capturing the essence of the popular Eeveelution with its soft pinks and floral designs.
The new Futuristic Rare rarity is represented by Mewtwo ex and Mew ex. The Mewtwo ex Futuristic Rare offers a striking, Art Deco-inspired design by Yano Keiji, who is also responsible for other full-art cards in the set. The Mew ex Futuristic Rare, illustrated by YOSHIROTTEN, boasts a neon-saturated aesthetic.
Pikachu ex receives two distinct SIR treatments in the set: one set during the daytime and another at night. The daytime rendition, while perhaps more colorful and detailed, is currently less valuable than its nighttime counterpart. The nighttime Pikachu ex SIR, featuring the mascot alongside other Pokémon and a fireworks display, commands a higher market price.
Other valuable cards in the set include the Pikachu & Zekrom GX from the Classic Collection and the Futuristic Rare Mewtwo ex.
