Miami-Dade County and Rockstar Games are reportedly in conversations regarding a potential marketing campaign for Grand Theft Auto 6 that would see parts of Miami transformed into the game's iconic Vice City. While initial reports suggested Rockstar initiated the discussions, clarification indicates that the city itself presented a pitch deck to the developer.

The proposals, as detailed by The Miamian, are ambitious and varied. One notable idea involves converting a section of Miami International Airport into a "welcome" area for Vice City, complete with thematic signage, custom luggage tags, branded luggage carts, a photo backdrop, and even a display aircraft painted in the game's signature purple hue.

Further concepts include beach, park, and port activations featuring DJs, exotic vehicles, photo opportunities, drone shows, and murals. Rockstar could also potentially brand city transit, with Vice City aesthetics applied to buses and trains, and even smaller elements like manhole covers and utility boxes.

Beyond marketing, the city's proposals also include long-term community benefits such as enhanced bus shelters and park improvements. A unique suggestion is the creation of a "radio lab" at a downtown Miami library, offering public access to recording and editing equipment.

Carlos Suarez, a spokesperson for Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, confirmed the discussions but stressed that "nothing has been formally agreed to or approved." He added that any proposal would require appropriate review and approval processes, highlighting the opportunity to "generate revenue for the County while showcasing Miami-Dade to a massive audience."

While it remains unlikely that all the proposed ideas would be implemented due to cost and strategic considerations, a significant marketing push leveraging Miami's influence on the game is anticipated. Rockstar Games is set to premiere an extended look at Grand Theft Auto 6 on Netflix, with IGN also providing live coverage.
