Microsoft is implementing another price increase for its Xbox consoles, with new pricing set to go into effect on August 1. This marks the third such adjustment for Xbox consoles since May 2025. Alongside the price hikes, Microsoft will also be phasing out the 2 TB Xbox Series X model.
The price adjustments will see 512 GB models increase by $100 and 1 TB models rise by $150. The updated pricing for various Xbox models is as follows:
- Xbox Series S 512 GB: $499.99 (previously $399.99)
- Xbox Series S 1TB: $599.99 (previously $449.99)
- Xbox Series X Digital: $749.99 (previously $599.99)
- Xbox Series X: $799.99 (previously $649.99)
A statement on Xbox Wire cited increasing costs for console storage and memory, which have more than doubled and are projected to double again by the fall of 2027. "We hoped another price increase would not be necessary, and we have spent the last several months working with suppliers on options," the statement read. "Unfortunately, console storage and memory prices have increased by more than 2.5x and we expect another doubling by the fall of 2027."
This price increase follows a modest price decrease for the Xbox Game Pass subscription service announced two months prior, which Microsoft had stated was a response to losing millions of subscribers at its previous higher price point. The latest console price adjustment comes eight months after a price increase in October and approximately a year after the initial price adjustment in May 2025.
Microsoft also highlighted potential strategies to enhance console accessibility, including payment plans, financing options, and the availability of used and refurbished consoles. The company reiterated that the Xbox Series S continues to be the most affordable entry point for playing major titles such as Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, Gears of War: E-Day, Grand Theft Auto VI, Halo: Campaign Evolved, and Madden NFL 27.
