Aspyr Media is continuing its initiative to re-release classic Lord of the Rings titles, announcing that Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor's Game of the Year edition and Middle-earth: Shadow of War's Definitive Edition will soon be available on Nintendo Switch 2. These remastered versions will be packaged as the Middle-earth: Shadow Bundle, set for release on September 30. The bundle will be priced at $70, though an introductory discount will make it available for $35 until October 6 at 2:59 AM ET.
While Aspyr has not provided specific technical details regarding the Switch 2 ports, the bundle will include a significant amount of extra content drawn from each game's downloadable content model. This includes additional story missions, cosmetic skins, weapons, and various gear sets.
This follows Aspyr's previous Lord of the Rings re-release, the Legacy Edition of The Lord of the Rings: War in the North, which launched in August. At that time, the publisher indicated plans to bring more older Lord of the Rings games to modern platforms.
Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War were originally developed by Monolith Productions. A planned third entry in the series did not materialize after Warner Bros. Games closed the studio in 2025.
Beyond these re-releases, new Lord of the Rings games are in development, including an RPG from Warhorse, the studio behind Kingdom Come: Deliverance, and another title reportedly being helmed by Crystal Dynamics, known for its work on the Tomb Raider franchise. The expansion of The Lord of the Rings media also extends to film, with Warner Bros. recently releasing images from The Hunt for Gollum movie, which will see Elijah Wood reprise his role as Frodo Baggins and is slated for a December 2027 release.
