After 17 years, Minecraft is introducing sittable objects for players. Cushions, available in 16 color variants and crafted from three Wool Slabs of the same color, are now accessible in the game's latest preview build. These items allow players to place them in the world and interact with them to sit.
In addition to cushions, the preview build also features new straw beds. These beds allow players to sleep through the night without setting their spawn point. However, each straw bed is destroyed after a single use and cannot be utilized in the Nether or The End dimensions. Players can craft four straw beds from three Hay Bales.
Both cushions and straw beds are available to players who have opted into Minecraft Preview. The latest update, version 26.40.30, also includes the addition of abandoned camps in the Pale Garden and Flower Forest biomes, along with improvements to the Dappled Forest biome. These additions are expected to be included in the full release of Minecraft later this year.
This update arrives as Mojang, one of many studios under the Xbox Game Studios umbrella, faces the impact of recent layoffs initiated by Microsoft. These workforce reductions have affected numerous recognizable gaming studios, including Activision, Bethesda/ZeniMax, Blizzard, and King, with over 3,200 employees reportedly losing their jobs. Some affected studios, such as Double Fine, Compulsion Games, Ninja Theory, and Undead Labs, are slated to become independent, while the future of Arkane Lyon remains uncertain.
