Mojang has announced The Sift, a new dimension for Minecraft that will be the first to be added to the game in over 14 years. The dimension is slated to arrive in Minecraft Java & Bedrock Edition in 2027, making it the fourth distinct dimension alongside the Overworld, the Nether, and The End. The Sift will first appear in Minecraft Dungeons 2, which is scheduled for release on September 29, 2026.
The announcement was made during Minecraft Live on September 26, where it was revealed that The Sift will introduce new biomes, mobs, and gameplay opportunities. While specific details remain scarce, Mojang did offer a glimpse of the dimension and one of its inhabitants during the broadcast. Players will be able to experience The Sift firsthand in Minecraft Dungeons 2 prior to its inclusion in the main Minecraft titles.
In addition to the new dimension, Minecraft World, a theme park attraction, is set to open at Chessington World of Adventures Resort in London in 2027. This attraction promises areas for exploration, a themed hotel with unique dining experiences, and the world's first Minecraft rollercoaster. The opening of Minecraft World coincides with the planned arrival of The Sift dimension in Minecraft.
Mojang's announcement comes as Minecraft continues to attract a significant number of new players, with Xbox CEO Asha Sharma reporting that over 300,000 individuals try the game daily, despite its 17-year history and over 425 million copies sold.
