Minecraft is set to introduce its first new dimension in 15 years, a vibrant, pink-hued realm named The Sift. This addition will bring the total number of dimensions to four, joining the existing Overworld, Nether, and End.
The Sift was unveiled during Minecraft Live, with a brief clip showcasing a blue, bunny-like creature walking through pink grass under a turquoise sky. While details remain scarce, players can anticipate encountering new mobs, blocks, and biomes within this entirely new dimension. The Sift is slated for release in both the Bedrock and Java editions of Minecraft in 2027.
Before its main game debut, a variant of The Sift will be accessible in Minecraft Dungeons 2, launching next week. According to Xbox Wire, The Sift in the ARPG sequel will feature "shifting tides" that can affect players, alongside hazardous new block types and a mix of friendly and hostile mobs. The dimension's biomes in Dungeons 2 include Singer's Meadow, characterized by flora growing out of red sculk, and Carapace, a desert area with blue walls and giant fossils.
Mojang has yet to elaborate on how players will access The Sift in Minecraft itself or how it will differ from its appearance in Minecraft Dungeons 2. The announcement also revealed a new subterranean biome for Minecraft called the ice caves. This biome will be found sporadically beneath colder Overworld biomes and introduces a light-based mechanic: icicles on the ceiling will detach if a torch is placed nearby, requiring careful placement of light sources.
Ice caves will also contain light-emitting crystals, a new resource called calcite, and a frozen zombie variant. While a release date for the ice caves has not been specified, they are expected to enter testing soon.
